Moisture and wheat yields across Kansas soils in spring report
The Western third of Kansas shows excellent soil moisture despite some moisture depth variation. Tests over a 3,400 mile route found average soil moisture to 48 inches, with 47.4 to 43.1 inches ranges across categories. Wet conditions dominated, and summer fallow fields retained more moisture than continuously cropped lands, affecting wheat height and maturation.
