Kansas avoids opening upset in NCAA Tournament rout
Kansas, led by Brandon Rush and Darnell Jackson, routed Portland State 85 to 61 after an early 1:25 a.m. tipoff. Coach Bill Self acknowledged fears of a 16 seed upset but the Jayhawks sprinted to a 49-26 lead and never looked back. Rush scored 15 first half points as KU shot 54.1 percent and opened the second round with strong energy.
