Wittig allowed to stay free during federal appeal
Federal judge in Topeka allowed former Westar Energy chairman David Wittig to remain free on a $5,000 bond while he appeals his convictions for conspiracy, money laundering and making false bank entries. Weidner denied similar bail. Wittig faces a separate trial on related charges with a September start date.
