Kansas engineers gather for 21st Structural Engineering Conference

About 150 engineers from Kansas and nearby states will attend the 21st annual Structural Engineering Conference at Kansas University. The event, sponsored by the KU School of Engineering and the Division of Continuing Education, covers bridge and steel fabrication topics with speakers from state and national agencies and universities. A $20 registration includes lunch and the proceedings.

OWLA elects new officers at annual meeting

The Old West Lawrence Association elected Eileen Fitch president Barb Waggoner vice president Ava Milett secretary and Alice Dicker treasurer at its annual meeting Tuesday night. Mike Davis planning chairman discussed how the Lawrence Comprehensive Plan may affect the neighborhood. A summer picnic is planned spanning Sixth to Ninth streets and from Tennessee to Illinois.

Two Men Arrested In Separate Marijuana Cases

Lawrence police arrested Mark Bobak and Monnie Ramos in separate marijuana possession cases. Bobak 21 held on misdemeanor illegal possession after officers found weed in his apartment during a traffic warrant search. Ramos 27 charged with illegal possession with intent to sell after marijuana was found in his car during a traffic stop. Bond set at 500 and 5000 dollars respectively. Smith Center approves 125000 airport bond for 540000 project with federal funding covering remaining costs.

Truck strike length seen as key, say Lawrence firms

Kansas University backs gradual intercollegiate merger plan

KU officials say a merger of the men's and women's athletic programs will not occur this year. Chancellor Archie Dykes outlined a plan to build a close working relationship and joint practices while the university monitors national rule changes and administrative needs.
