In Manila the four Americans aboard a Philippines airliner hijacked to China report courteous treatment by Chinese officials. Hijackers were made to apologize to passengers, while mission leader Russell Ebersole notes propaganda materials were available and meals offered with both American and Chinese dishes.
Commissioners discussed directives to adjust county assessments aiming to equalize agricultural valuations across 105 counties. They see this as a first step toward broader tax equity, noting Douglas County current assessments average 19 percent of market value versus the legal 30 percent target.

Alvin Toffler 41 year old former Fortune editor and author of Future Shock will lecture at Kansas University April 24 at 3 p.m. in Woodruff Auditorium Kansas Union as part of a day long seminar on Future Shock organized by the School of Engineering. The Roberts Lectureship funded by Roy A. Roberts endowment honors the Kansas City Star Co former president. Toffler argues change rushes ahead and individuals must cope with it while remaining hopeful about the future. He also discusses schools and colleges reform ideas and his broader futurism work.
More than 100 Kansas University co editors turned out for the first pom pon clinic Tuesday night in Allen Fieldhouse.
