Camden Strain of the Kansas Research Bureau said the enacted enabling act to join the unemployment compensation program will not affect the April 1 1936 tax payment by Kansas merchants to the federal government. He noted Kansas lacks 1936 enabling action to share 90 percent state tax revenue with the federal government unless Congress acts. Federal authorities and the FBI reported little interest in the case of Buichiro Abe a 59 year old Japanese bath house proprietor. Police said they arrested Abe after a Sunday night brawl and found items in his rooming house that could suggest espionage including maps of Hilo Hawaii and the Los Angeles water system dated 1934.
