London reports the Saigon embassy bombing may jeopardize early Viet Nam peace talks. British officials warn of possible widening war and expect American retaliation to rise. The attack is seen as a potential start to a broader Viet Cong terror campaign targeting civilians.
Guest conductor Danny Kaye presided over a benefit concert at Philharmonic Hall for the pension fund. He performed with comic baton work and humorous interruptions, ended by declaring go home after 90 minutes, while Seiji Ozawa opened with Berlioz and other stars attended.

Kansas City owner Charles QC Finley unveiled a three year old mule mascot named Charlie O to counter Frank Lane’s claim the Athletics would move to Milwaukee. The trainer asked the mule two questions about Lane and staying in Kansas City and the mule backed away each time. Finley announced the stunt at a KC stable after hearing Lane’s remarks.

In Vinita Park Missouri a 70 year old man named Ubright crawled through smoke to rescue two year old Michael Agee from his neighbor's burning house. He handed the unconscious child to a officer through a window and exited. Michael was serious condition and Ubright suffered minor burns and smoke inhalation. The blaze caused about 5000 dollars in damage.
Seven men were named to the Lawrence Chamber of Commerce board of directors and will take office at the April meeting. The new members are George Clem J D King Jim Owens Fred Rumsey Dolph C Simons Jr Ken Whitenight and Bob Zimmerman. Voters cast 523 ballots of 587 eligible for an 89 percent turnout. TOPEKA AP A bill to legalize ball point pens for marking ballots passed the House 96 to 6 and goes to the Senate. Currently ballots may be marked only with a black lead pencil. The bill’s sponsors say many voters do not know pen use is illegal. Also approved 100 to 1 was a bonding bill for state officers and officials seeking Senate approval.

A 19 year old Kansas University sophomore coed reportedly tried to kill herself by swallowing 80 sleeping pills in Centennial Park Monday. After initial attempt she asked for transport to Lawrence Memorial Hospital and was transferred to Watkins Memorial Hospital KU. A passerby helped her reach care and she left a note saying no clear reason for the action but had contemplated it for some time.
Three Lawrence High School juniors were nominated for the National Council of Teachers of English Achievement Awards. They were recommended by LHS teachers and chosen by Wesley Keltcher, chair of the English dept and state chairman. Winners to be announced next fall after April tests and writing samples.
Lawrence residents must buy 1965 dog licenses by Thursday at regular prices. After that date licenses double. tags cost $2 for male and spayed females, $5 for unspayed females. Proof of rabies is required at City Hall. Leash law starts Thursday. dogs must stay within city limits until Sept. 1. Penalties apply for shelter stays.

KU hosts 24 representatives from 17 Latin American countries and develops an exchange program with Oriente University in Cumana focusing on basic sciences. KU professors Kleinberg, Price, Beard, and Leonard begin two week stint aiding Oriente's science school.
Denver secretary Barbara Robbins, 21, identified as one of the victims in the U S Embassy bombing in Saigon. Mr and Mrs Bufford Robbins were informed by the State Department early today that Barbara was among the casualties.
