Rate hearing on corn fed cattle freight rates
At a Chicago Inter state Commerce Commission hearing Professor John A Hopkins of Iowa State University said the proportion of freight costs in corn fed cattle has risen from 8 to 20 percent since 1923. The session began an investigation started in Ft Worth and continued in Kansas City over a Western territory rate issue. Hopkins argued that cattle prices did not keep pace with rising freight costs. Since 1917 the fat cattle market has shown large fluctuations, more so since 1921 than the stocker and feeder markets. Also reported Bank Looters Secure $15,000. Four robbers, one armed with a sawed off shotgun, held up seven Ashland State Bank officials and escaped with an estimated $10,000 to $15,000.
