House Fails On Veto Override Of Right To Work Bill
The Kansas House fell six votes short of overriding Gov. Fred Hall's veto on the right to work bill. With 125 seats, 190 votes were required. supporters managed 184. The bill is dead for this session. Democratic votes largely sustained the veto, while 72 of 89 Republicans backed the override and 16 opposed. Absentees included one Republican and two Democrats. No demonstrations occurred during the veto reading or roll call. Speaker Robert Jennison and Floor Leader D B Marshall Jr supported the override.

Penny, owner of Penny's Real y Mixed Concrete Co., was elected president of the Lawrence Chamber of Commerce for 1985, succeeding Bill Bodin.
