A Douglas County judge ruled the three defendants in the Massachusetts Street triple homicide will be tried together, but not in May. The court will reconvene April 27 to set a new date, as defense of the lead defendant seeks more prep time for the extensive case.
The Kansas House rejected repealing a 2013 law that lets districts opt to arm teachers with concealed firearms. None of the 286 districts have adopted it, partly due to liability fears and response times. Rep Blake Carpenter noted rural districts face delays and costs, while Rep Brett Parker pressed an insurance focused amendment amid a safety package.
KU Debate led by Quaram Robinson and Will Katz defeated Georgetown University 4-3 in the final at Wichita State University. Scott Harris started the event late Monday night. The Jayhawks win marks their sixth NDT championship, with previous titles in 1954 1970 1976 1983 and 2009.
