Committee Enters Maze on Tax Bill
Washington AP reports the House Ways and Means Committee will draft Kennedy tax bill next week after hearing about 200 witnesses. Observers expect June action with about 3 billion in initial tax cuts, tapering toward Kennedy’s 10.2 billion long range goal. Reforms and compensating revisions may be limited to avoid an 11.9 billion deficit and keep rate spread near 15 to 75 percent rather than 14 to 65.
