A 1995 Dodge Neon owned by a 28-year-old Lawrence woman was scratched on the hood causing $1,000 in damages in the 100 block of Michigan Street early Tuesday. Lawrence Douglas County Fire & Medical logged several calls including a trash fire, gas leak, and multiple medical emergencies across areas such as 1400 Block East 19th Street and Prairie Avenue. Humane Society reports a stray older neutered dog named Poodie found with a red collar. The Journal-World notes it does not print all police reports and generally limits burglaries to $1,000 losses unless unusual.

Baldwin man faces trial for aggravated battery and related charges
Stephen Meeker, 34, Baldwin, is scheduled for trial today in Douglas County District Court on charges of aggravated battery, aggravated assault and attempted aggravated battery. He allegedly shot Steven Swafford, 31, Lawrence, in a neighborhood dispute with Swafford’s girlfriend, Kerry Chalmers, on Oct. 14, 2001 in the 1200 block of Bison. Jury selection begins this morning.
