Adam Rohe Youth Enlisted At Sixty Mile Trek From Indiana
Adam Rohe well known Lawrence citizen and Civil War veteran died this afternoon aged about 79. He walked sixty miles from Connersville to Cincinnati to enlist before turning 17 and joined the Sixth Ohio Regiment later captured at Andersonville and escaped. He served on the Monitor Neosha and became a noted grain decorator and artist with early work in Harpers Weekly. He married Alice Park and had three children Alige Fred and Margaret. Born July 11 1845 he was the eldest of twelve children of Anton and Margaret Rohe.
