County funds set for Peaslee Center training hub

Douglas County commissioners unanimously approved a funding package for the Dwayne Peaslee Technical Training Center to open this fall. The Economic Development Corporation of Lawrence and Douglas County leads the project, with renovations at a former Honeywell building near Haskell Avenue and 31st Street. The package includes 500,000 from city and county, plus 1 million already invested by the EDC, and 200,000 more from the EDC. The plan also seeks a 150,000 loan from both city and county, tax rebates for 2014, and industrial revenue bonds to enable construction materials exemptions. County officials praised the cooperation among city, county, industry, and EDC.
