Exempts Cars From Tax In Kansas Gasoline Tax Ruling
Topeka March 26 The state public service commission ruled today that gasoline used in rail way cars is exempt from the new two cents a gallon motor fuel tax. The opinion was written in a letter to Frank H. Roberts of Oskaloosa secretary of the board of administration and general manager of the Leavenworth and Topeka Railway Company. The law enacted by the legislature exempted gasoline used in stationary engines or tractors used exclusively for agricultural purposes. The ruling clarifies the intent to tax gasoline in road vehicles with revenues for road building and raises questions about municipal tax on gasoline for tax exempt vehicles and fuel for road working tractors.
