A barn owned by an 8 man named Krause burned to the ground this afternoon on 1125 Mississippi Street. The structure was empty at the time, and total loss is not known. Fire Destroys Farmland Near Tonganoxie During Dry March Heat

Mike Leahy of Tonganoxie started a vane pomace blaze three miles southwest of town that swept over four or five farms, threatened several dwellings, and produced a fierce heat felt miles away. Wind carried the fire northeast. neighbors saved Frank Fairchild’s dwelling and Milner’s orchard with help from Fred Needham. Several farms lost minor timber while others escaped significant damage. The event was followed by a Washington Post camp fire at the G A R hall with speeches and readings by Mrs. Bunkminster, Miss Rankin, and Mrs. Macoulbre.
