Naismith Rules Bench sculpture at KU opens soon

A bronze bust of James Naismith by Elden Tefft sits on a bench outside KU's DeBruce Center near Allen Fieldhouse. The sculpture, installed Wednesday, accompanies the planned April opening of the DeBruce Center housing Naismith's handwritten rules of basketball. It will be covered until the center opens for protection from construction.

Kansas lawmakers push equity school funding to Brownback

Governor could receive final version of the school funding equity bill today as the House and Senate budget committees advance their measures. Both chambers debate and vote on the bills on the session’s last day four weeks before spring break. The move follows a February Kansas Supreme Court ruling finding current equalization aid unconstitutional and warns of school closures if a constitutional funding mechanism isn’t enacted by July 1.

Ottawa man found guilty in quadruple murder

Kyle Flack, 30, was found guilty of capital murder in the 2013 killings of Kaylie Bailey and her 18 month old daughter Lana, her boyfriend Andrew Stout, and roommate Steven White. The verdict brings possible death penalty consideration at sentencing next week.
