L Pappan, adviser at Haskell Institute, said a 26 year old, red complexioned man forced him from Cordley school in Lawrence at 2:30 pm to drive to Osawatomie in a car. The armed kidnapper claimed he needed to meet a partner in Oklahoma and drove via Highway 73 W and rural roads to Osawatomie before releasing him two miles east, with no robbery. Pappan described the suspect as well dressed, about 160 pounds, spoke softly, and kept a 2.45 caliber automatic pistol visible throughout the trip. The incident was reported to Sheriff Jack Dunkley at 5:10 pm.
