Irving second-graders charged with terrorist threats
Two eight-year-old boys in Irving were charged with making terrorist threats after playing cops and robbers with a paper gun at Augusta Street School. Police Chief Palama defended the district's zero-tolerance policy and noted the incident stemmed from one boy imitating another who had earlier shown a paper gun in a school bathroom.

Genes link father and mother to preeclampsia risk
Researchers at the University of Utah School of Medicine report that a mother who had preeclampsia in her birth faces three times higher risk in future pregnancies, and a father’s birth history doubles the chance his offspring will have similar risk. The study uses Utah medical records and spans births since 1947. Preeclampsia affects about 5 percent of pregnancies and rose in the 1990s. Medical guidance includes bed rest, low-salt diet, and sometimes induced delivery to prevent seizures.
