Ottawa sign painter Art Conus remains in craft past age 87
Ottawa age 87 Art Conus, a lifelong sign painter born in Springfield Missouri, still works freehand from his garage. He began painting signs at age 10, moved to Ottawa in 1934, served the Navy in World War II, and made sign painting his sole business in 1950. He laments computer driven vinyl signs replacing painted work, plans trips to Texas with his wife, and says he still takes calls but prioritizes golf.
