In Columbiana Alabama on March 22 H F Blake Calera chief of police was fired upon and stabbed in circuit court after being acquitted in the murder case of Louise Monteabaro. Mrs Mabel Monteabaro fired a pistol as Blake was congratulated. Miss Cecil Tubbs stabbed him in the neck. Blake was taken to a hospital with a serious neck wound. The two women were taken into custody as the courtroom cleared. The shooting followed a two week trial in which Blake had been charged with murder alongside W D Farmer.

Two Fatally Burned in Tender Explosion
