Kansas consultants defend school funding study findings
Two consultants, Lori Taylor and Jason Willis, stood by their Kansas public school funding estimate of 1.8 to 2.1 billion dollars per year during a joint meeting of House and Senate K-12 budget committees. They added the increase could be phased in and not permanent, easing conservative concerns.

Officer shot during training at Fraternal Order of Police lodge
A Lawrence police officer with two years on the force was shot in the leg during firearms training at the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 2 on E 661 Diagonal Road about 2:50 p.m. The injury was described as an accident caused by equipment entanglement in the trigger guard. The officer remained in stable condition after 5 p.m. as roads along U.S. Highway 59 and Iowa Street were closed while rushing to the hospital. No ambulance was involved.
