Regents Approve KU Senate Code

Rural Grass Fires Burn Acres Near Lawrence Area
Fire officials battled four rural grass fires this week in Kanas counties. At Lone Star Lake 15 acres burned including a small building and fence posts while two farms reported several acres scorched. Firefighters from Clinton Township and local departments responded and contained the blaze by 4 p.m. One building owned by the county was destroyed. The home residents reported no noticeable damage and unknown insurance status.

Juveniles Named in $3000 Ready-Mix Loss Incident
An estimated 3000 damage occurred Sunday afternoon at Penny Ready-Mix Concrete Co. 730 Del St Lawrence. Ten juveniles were identified and referred to Douglas County Juvenile Court for investigation after a tractor rammed the garage door and damaged trucks and equipment. Three thefts reported include an $85 stereo from Bob Herren’s car and a $40 tire and rim from Mary Ann Stout’s unlocked vehicle.

Minister Given Prison Term In Fraud Case
Rev. Lawrence A. Parker of Kansas City Missouri must serve a one to five year term in the Kansas State Penitentiary at Lansing after being found guilty of fraud by a Douglas County jury. Sentencing was delayed until Wednesday. A separate jury trial was postponed with a new date set for April 4 for Marvin Mumford of 817 Walnut Street charged with felonious assault. Dale Mumford was wounded in the leg in October. A mistrial in another case led County Attorney Daniel A. Young to seek a new trial in May.

Fire Crews Battle Two Grass and Brush Fires
