Glen Elder flood control plan grows in size and cost
Government engineers raise Glen Elder reservoir plans on the Solomon River Kansas from 425 000 to 800 000 925 000 acre feet and from 29 to 40 million dollars as floods last summer prompted a larger project. The plan aims to control floods on the Kansas Kaw river feeding Smoky Hill. Budget requests shifted from 6 2 million to 3 62 million with local opposition fearing loss of productive farmland and possible flooding of Glen Elder town. Rep Smith notes residents worry about land and town protection but avoids a clear stance.
