Mrs Elsie W Morgan of Baldwin died Wednesday in Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Neighbors Help Protect House at Bradford Powell Farm
A fire on the Bradford Powell Dairy Farm two miles west of Lone Star destroyed a new drill and other machinery after electrical wiring sparked in the machine shed. Neighbors and Mrs. Lillie Johnson prevented spread to the Powell home, saving it from major damage though the west side and an upstairs room were harmed. A farm tractor nearby survived with tire damage. a Douglas County water truck assisted to prevent further fires. The farm lies about 12 miles southwest of Lawrence.

A freight train struck a car near Xenia Ohio killing all ten aboard eight of them Girl Scouts.
