First class of All-Stars finds diverse paths
Ten years after the Journal-World named eight Academic All-Stars in 1997, the group shows varied journeys. Jennifer Carnes shifted from astronaut dreams to international studies and retail management. Megan Gripka moved from biology to clinical lab science. Mark Hammel built an IT and business career. Jerrell Herod pursued medicine and cardiology. Luke Lang became a math teacher and mentor. Justin Poplin became a patent attorney. Christine Rieder stayed with chemical engineering and added an MBA path. Dan Smith shifted from premedical biology to physical therapy while remaining connected to music and the Army Reserve.
