Native American student honored by Kansas education group
Elyse Towey a Napa California senior majoring in elementary education has been named the 1998 Native American Student of the Year by the Kansas Association for Native American Education in Topeka. Towey Iowa Nation of Kansas Nebraska president since January will present a paper March 27 in Rochester New York at a national symposium on contemporary American Indian issues. Towey aims to teach in an area with many American Indians. Cornel Pewewardy KU assistant professor nominated her for the award.
