Two-Price Gold Plan Sanctioned by Seven Nations
Seven leading Western nations agreed in Washington to a two price system for gold. Central banks will fix a $35 official price for interbank dealings while private markets set a higher market rate around $40 to $45. The plan aims to curb gold draining speculation but does not fix the balance of payments deficit. France’s position remains uncertain as others pledge no further selling to the private market.
