Conservation of Water Will Shape Kansas Economy
Dr. Harold E. Jones of Kansas State University warns water policy will drive future Kansas living standards. He notes 85 percent of rainfall evaporates or transpires, 10 percent leaves the state via streams, and less than 5 percent is used for irrigation, domestic needs, or industry. Potential exists to conserve water through research, though current methods don’t yet cut evaporation significantly or yield high crops with less water.
