Morton Concrete Block Firm Expands With War Roots
The Morton family of Lawrence started a concrete block business in May 1946 to serve local needs. Now operating at East Fifteenth Street, they produce 75 block shapes in two weights and 12 colors, with blocks used in schools, government buildings, and commercial projects across eastern Kansas. Walter and Clark Jr. served in World War II, inspired the venture, and automation and growth have driven ongoing expansion. The plant runs five days a week, eight hours daily, serving contractors throughout the region. The Mortons expect steady growth without immediate expansion of their site.
