Kansas Senate advances two criminal justice reform bills
Kansas Senate Judiciary Committee moved two bills toward floor action on Wednesday. One would compensate the wrongly convicted, while the other would require greater public disclosure of police body camera video. The measures, previously passed by the House, face possible conference committee negotiations after committee amendments. The compensation bill was requested by groups including the Innocence Project, which helped exonerate Lamonte McIntyre after 23 years in prison and Floyd Bledsoe after 15 years for a 1999 Jefferson County murder.
