Medieval note casts Robin Hood as persistent thief, study says
Scholar Julian Luxford of the University of St Andrews reports a 1460 Latin marginal note in an English history book that offers a rare negative view of Robin Hood. The inscription, found in Eton College’s library, describes the outlaw as infesting Sherwood and surrounding areas with robberies, challenging the folklore of a benevolent hero. Luxford notes monks likely harbored reservations about Hood while medieval tales often portrayed him as a gallant figure aligned with good knights.
