Transportation Secretary Nor man Mineta announced 25.8 million in federal grants for Missouri airports. Springfield-Branson Regional will receive 6 million to extend the crosswind runway and upgrade facilities, KCI 5.9 million for tarmac renovations, and Columbia Regional 734,391 for tarmac expansion. Forty-seven other general aviation airports share 13.1 million to boost capacity and safety.

The Kansas Board of Regents will recruit faculty students staff and alumni from public colleges for a letter writing drive to lawmakers urging higher taxes for state colleges and universities. Letters should arrive mid April ahead of the legislature wrap up session. For the first time Regents approve a collectively bargained contract for Fort Hays State University faculty, ratified by members and awaiting state approval. The 3.2 percent raise is funded by the 2001 Legislature.
