A 1997 weather history note reports soft hail the size of a softball causing millions in auto damage in Del Rio Texas. Three people were injured when hailstones broke a mall skylight. Jeffery Hebert, 23, was convicted of capital murder in the death of Clay County Deputy James Kenney and related offenses. Core drilling found dolomite and gypsum near the gas path, suggesting a possible conduit along dolomite layers and a river-like structural trend. Kansas Gas Service and Sofregaz officials caution the theory may be site-specific as they study the core samples and consider alternative explanations.
Nelson Farms faces a 46000 fine from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment for water quality and permit violations at two Norton and Phillips County feedlots. KDHE ordered upgrades or abandonment of pens and silage areas, repairs to wells, and stronger pollution controls after a neighbor reported runoff from an irrigation pivot reaching pasture. Owner Terry Nelson appeals, claiming the allegations are inaccurate.
