Mr. Shanafelt spent two years in the Philippines during the insurrection. After service in the Philippines he worked in the Choctaw Land Office in 1903 at Atoka and in the Five Civilized Tribes office at Muskogee, Oklahoma. He later ran his own Indian Title and Information Office. The Shanafelts married May 23, 1917, at Muskogee and moved to Lawrence in July 1944.
