Budget battle over pension payments and borrowing plans
The Budget House passed last month 87-36 proposing delaying a pension payment to year end, borrowing 317 million from idle funds, and repaying over seven years. Denning’s plan would delay payments longer, repay about 150 million over 20 years, borrow around 100 million to keep a 50 million general fund balance, and rely on a future tax bill for revenue. Democrats urged delaying final action until tax implications are clearer, citing court orders on school finance and Medicaid cuts, with potential full Senate debate forthcoming.

Town hall at Dole Institute frames Obamacare fallout
Citizens at the Dole Institute town hall hear the CBO estimate that the GOP plan could cut the federal deficit by 337 billion over ten years while leaving 24 million Americans uninsured, including 14 million in 2018, with Medicaid reforms and tax credits shaping coverage. The discussion features support for repeal, concerns about pre existing conditions, and calls for greater scrutiny of CBO estimates amid broader GOP health policy debate.
