DNA testing offered in Topeka murder exoneration bid
Shawnee County DA says KBI volunteered DNA testing to review blood evidence in the 1979 Topeka murder of Cathy Cummings, who was pregnant. Adrian Washington, serving a life sentence, argues the tests could exonerate him if material is available and public in court files. The case reopened in 1999 for DNA comparison. Washington’s family questions the missing rape kit.
