Judges Reach Compromise on Foster Care Legislation
Welfare officials and juvenile court judges reached a compromise bill to reduce foster care placements while preserving judges autonomy. The plan lets SRS propose alternatives but requires judges to explain refusals, with appeals possible. About 1,200 nonabusive cases enter foster care yearly for services, and officials say safe home care is possible with proper services.
