KU Cancer Center transplant program grows rapidly
KU Hospital officials reported a surge in blood and marrow transplants from fewer than 50 in 2006 to 230 by 2012, with a goal of 300 this year. Director Joseph McGuirk said the growth reflects heavy investment, expanded infrastructure, and extensive clinical trials involving about 40 percent of patients last year. The program is now one of 19 NIH designated centers for transplant trials and aims to become the nation’s best.
