Most Distant Galaxy Found by Astronomers
Astronomers led by Arjun Dey at Johns Hopkins report spotting a baby galaxy whose light began about 12.2 billion years ago, seen as it appeared when the universe was around 820 million years old. University of California Berkeley’s James Graham notes the age depends on a 13 billion year universe and that individual stars cannot be resolved.

The Rev. Jimmy Creech, 53, a former Omaha pastor, testifies before a church court in Kearney pleading innocent to unsanctioned liturgy and disobeying United Methodist policy. The trial could shape church handling of homosexual ceremonies and policy interpretation. Separately, Perdue Farms faces a $160 million race discrimination suit from seven black contract poultry farmers in Richmond, alleging feeding and equipment theft while charging black growers for feed meant for white growers. Perdue denies the claims.
