McNamara Returns From Viet Nam Mission
Secretary of Defense Robert S. McNamara returned from a five day trip to South Viet Nam to brief President Johnson on the war effort. He said no senior official doubts victory is possible with proper effort though the path may be hard. He and General Maxwell Taylor were sent to appraise conditions and decide any further actions, with reports that U.S. aid may need increasing but expansion into North Viet Nam was vetoed.
