Washington March 13 The Senate moved toward final action on the European recovery program after defeating a Taft led drive to cut first year funds from 5.3 billion to 4.0 billion. Before illness, Thomason said she voted three times and McKissick paid her a dollar per vote.

Alfred Lawrence, longtime Lawrence mayor and portographer, died last evening at 92 Alabama Street. A native of Winchester, he came to Lawrence as a youth, built a photography business by 16, and served two mayoral terms from 1936 to 1941. He was 68, married Edna Mae Honnold in 1904, and leaves a daughter, Mrs. Lor.
Douglas county youth compete in county 4-H club day at Liberty Memorial High School starting 9 AM. Over 100 members enter group and solo events including one act play, promotional talk, demonstrations, model meeting, and musical items.
