Capitol revenue plan faces tax hike and school voucher debate
Kansas lawmakers weigh revenue estimates showing tax increases for low income earners while critique grows over highway funding delays and a 2 percent cap on budget growth. House Education Budget Committee may vote on a private and parochial school voucher bill, with support from Catholic school leaders but opposition from civil liberty and school boards groups. A Senate panel backs ending senior hunting and fishing license exemptions to raise park upkeep funds, offering a $40 lifetime option or half price annual licenses. Upcoming hearings include House bills on concealed carry in public buildings and unencumbered district balances, plus regent and education board meetings and death penalty discussions.
