Lawrence residents start support group for wheelchair users
Two Lawrence residents share what they have learned since becoming wheelchair bound. Ron Miller, 19, faced a long battle with back pain after hoisting a heavy polisher up stairs at work. The ongoing pain led to surgery but eventual wheelchair use, requiring time and funds for a ramp lift and a van, prompting a shift to a new support group.

Road work planned this week in Lawrence and surrounding areas
Northbound traffic on North Third Street near the Kansas Turnpike entrance will be limited to one lane on Monday. Kasold Street between Bob Billings Parkway and Eighth Street will have one lane closed. Crews operate Tuesday through Friday for about a month with completion in April 2012. One lane on westbound Sixth Street west of George Williams Way will be intermittently closed until May 2012. The Kansas River levee construction near Bowersock Mills & Power Co. will detour users to city streets at North Second and Locust. Water lines and sanitary sewer work along 23rd Street will close North Perimeter Road and East 23rd Street Frontage Road until June 2012. East 1900 Road will close between Route 1057 and Route 458 with a marked detour. completion by Monday. U.S. Highway 59 North 200 Road and U.S. Highway 24 Bourbanis Creek bridge work will reduce lanes with targets in late 2012. U.S. Highway 69 northbound left lane closed from 103rd to 61st in Overland Park with spring 2012 completion.
