Austria's chancellor Kurt Schuschnigg resigns under Hitler's pressure as German troops advance across the border. Goering appears in Vienna and crowds cheer Nazi banners while police swing to the Nazi side amid riots and mobilization orders.
Nazi and Schuhchnigg supporters fought in Linz and at the Danube bridge injuring three and eight more lightly. Vienna orders troops and police to barracks while 100,000 reserves are mobilized. Rumors of Schuschnigg’s fall grow as frontiers tighten and envoys push talks with Berlin.
A Reuters dispatch from Vienna said Hitler's trusted aides Goering and Hess would speak in Karlsplatz as Austria faces pressure to Nazify. Britain warned Germany of consequences, while Von Ribbentrop delayed his Berlin return amid talks on European appeasement. Diplomats reported a Hitler-backed demand for Chancellor Schuschnigg to resign, risking Austrian independence.
Reports from Bolzano say German troops moved into Austria while Italy and Rome avoid troop mobilization. Paris officials disclose Italy refused to join France and Britain in any action to defend Austrian independence, as France and Britain discuss options amid a tense central Europe crisis.
Washington March 11 The House approved a tax bill 294 to 98 after rejecting a surtax on closely held corporations. The measure would replace undistributed profits taxes with 16 percent corporate income tax for small firms and a 4 percent surtax on undistributed profits for larger ones. An excise tax on pork was kept at 6 to 8 cents a pound, expected to raise 5 billion dollars annually. Secretary Hull criticized the pork tax, warning against harm to the agricultural sector.
Senator Joseph F. Guffey of Pennsylvania deserts the state Democratic committee to endorse C T C's Thomas P. Kennedy for governor. He argues labor cannot win without the Democratic party and notes Lewis’ rising influence as a power broker for 1940 conventions.
Representative Houston urged house and senate conferees on the post office appropriation bill to fund an air mail route from Wichita Kansas to Pueblo Colorado. The senate added 985000 more than the house in the bill.
In Dunedin Florida on March 11 Mrs Landon outfished her husband CPI Alf M Landon former Kansas governor, landing nine kingfish to eight while angling from the yacht of Donald Roebling in the Gulf of Mexico.
In a series of air assaults, two Chinese squadrons attacked the Japanese airbase at Nanking while a Japanese train between Pengpu and Linhwaikwan was also bombed. Reported damage varied with ten planes claimed by China and no damage claimed by Japan. American missionaries and foreign nationals sought refuge in Chengchow’s Southern Baptist compound as air raids loomed.

Lilienthal of bad faith. they claimed Morgan sought to rule the TVA.
Kansas tax data show cereal malt beverage revenue fell to 29102.83 in February, part of a nine month total of 457689. Governor Huxman noted winter months dampen receipts but expects 600000 for year. Cigarette taxes rose to 78770.05 in February, while gasoline taxes climbed by 137550.13 to 877634.97.
Treasury officials remind taxpayers there are four days to file federal income tax returns. Returns must reach the nearest Internal Revenue collector by midnight Tuesday March 15 to be counted. The Agriculture Department notes autos rank second only to food in family budgets in 24 western towns.

Homer B Cummings filed a brief urging review and uniform questions across states. Senator Rolla Colman and 23 legislators appealed Kansas court ruling ratifying the proposed constitutional amendment.

Federal economists estimate the recent business downturn has knocked 4.3 million jobs off in four months, raising total unemployment to about 10.45 million. WPA rolls near 2 million. Congress approved 250 million for relief and the Senate committee weighs policy options.
Harold A. Davis, 27, died at Memorial hospital from a skull fracture believed to result from a fall from the rear porch of Weyermuller billiard parlor at 714 Massachusetts street around 9:30 last night. Davis, about 215 pounds, was found unconscious on the brick alley below the 10 foot high porch after doors blocked his return inside. He lived at 724 Rhode Island with his mother Mrs. Anna Davis and was later moved to the hospital where he never regained consciousness. Authorities were alerted. Davis had been drinking and had argued with friends before the fall. he planned to leave for California.
Kansas temperatures rise under clear skies as A D Robb notes 65 to 70 degrees in western counties and 60 to 65 in the east with 70 to 75 expected statewide tomorrow. Last night’s low reached 30 at Goodland and Phillipsburg recorded 64 yesterday.
Sacramento March 11 Tom Mooney saw his bid for a state legislative pardon collapse in a late night session. An attempt to free him from San Quentin prison after 21 years failed when the assembly fell short by two votes. The measure ended at 12 55 a m with a 38 to 28 tally to adjourn.
