AP A suit challenging the government right to call gold liberty bonds for payment in advance of maturity without redeeming them in gold was filed in the Court of Claims by the Dixon Terminal Company of Cincinnati. Robert A Taft son of the late President filed the action. Taft presented a 850 fourth Wherry A 12 per cent gold bond demanding payment in gold dollars, the Treasury refused, with the same offer in current currency rejected as payment.

Senator Gibson with him on earmark provisions remains hopeful for administration alignment. A possible compromise fuels expectations as senate deliberations proceed amid a tense clerk gallery.
Former Kansas state treasurer Tom B. Boyd, 58, entered the state prison in Lansing to serve a 4 to 10 year sentence for illegal removal of bonds from the state treasury. Commitments were signed by District Judge Otis E. Hungate. Boyd, linked to the Kansas bogus bond scandal, resigned during the probe. Bond broker Ronald Finney is serving a lengthy sentence for bond forgery.
AP dispatch notes Kansas Attorney General Clarence Beck stating Federal Judge Kennamer ruling allowing liquor sales by a wet state firm to a licensed dealer in a dry state has no effect in Kansas where it remains illegal for a licensed firm to handle or sell intoxicating liquor. Kansas City dispatch reports chief probation officer Andrews says 16 year old Parky Brooka of Lawrence Kansas will be turned over to Kansas authorities after an encapade incident. Dr Gist Jr a 16 year old Kansas City resident told police at 12 57 am today he was held prisoner last night by a man who forced him to drive from Kansas City to Lawrence to stage a robbery The bandit about 9 0 inches tall spoke with a foreign accent wore rough clothes and carried a revolver He was not located after the 1032 Auburn sedan carrying Gist was robbed of 85 cents in Lawrence and he returned to Kansas City seeking his family.
A fire on the vacant second floor of a building housing Patterson General Store destroyed the store and nearby C. W. Smith garage. Night watchman Dell Nunally, 15, helped raise alarms as volunteers and firefighters from Kirkaid and Mound City fought the blaze. No stock was saved and loss estimates were not yet set. the Patterson building dated to 1884.
In Topeka on March 11 AP reports a stormy Senate session ending with a near clash over liquor and tax issues. The Fossey liquor bill failed in conference, allowing 8.2 beer to remain legal. A tax conference yielded continued consolidated corporate returns and a revised revenue plan amid heated exchanges and a minor fist fight sparked by a cracker tossed between Rep. Raymond Smith and Harvey Jetmore.
