Representatives from sixteen private Southwest power companies testified before the House Appropriations Subcommittee on February 14 criticizing the Southwestern Power Administration and Rural Electrification Administration. William A Moses, a Kansas pioneer settler born in Erie Pennsylvania in 1830s, died in Manhattan Beach California age 91 on Wednesday. He moved to Great Bend Kansas in 1871, ran grocery soil and mining ventures, became vice president of the Kansas City Missouri board of trade, developed Lucky Tiger mines in Sonora and Missouri lead zinc mines, served Pueblo Colorado sheriff 1891 to 1893, resided in California since 1912. Funeral services Saturday, body to Kansas City for burial beside first wife Grave Buckland. Surviving include daughter Mia Elinor.
The Douglas County soil conservation district reports ten farm plans created in February. Work included one farm pond construction, four-fifths of a mile of diversion ditches, and three and two fifths miles of terraces. Plans covered farms owned by George Kramer, Jim Bell, Richard Funk, Dewey Benander, Emil Masenthin, Elmer Thurber, and a Richland-area property owner.
Senator McCarthy claims a number of important cases will support his charge of a communist spy ring in the state department. Topeka March 10 1947 the Vinland Mutual Telephone company of Douglas county completed incorporation in the secretary of state’s office. Twenty three residents around Vinland and Baldwin formed the firm with initial capital of 1425 dollars. President Truman will depart Sunday for a three week vacation in Florida. He will be accompanied by most of his White House aides including John R. Steelman and Charles S. Murphy. The departure is set for 10 4 aboard the yacht Williamsburg with an expected Key West arrival by 6 30 p m EST Thursday.

Washington March 10 Secretary of Agriculture Brannan told inquiring congressmen he will announce new hog price supports as soon as circumstances permit. His office released today a reply to 18 Republican House members urging an early decision. The present hog support program expires March 31.

Firemen answered three alarms yesterday and this morning. A kitchen stove fire on a grease fire on Diana Street caused light damage. A barn fire at Fourth and Wisconsin was extinguished before spreading. A roof fire at 1435 Vermont Street was put out at 8 45 this morning.
