Berlin workers resume duties after leaders call off the general strike that halted the capital’s operations, ending days of disruption and unrest in the city. The move restores normal services and reduces the threat of continued chaos in IX district.
Berlin and Halle clashes amid postwar turmoil as President Ebert and Landsberg arrive from Weimar to quell disorder. Spartacan forces seize Lichtenberg, kill 60 officers, while government troops regain control. Berlin resumption of work follows general strike. Seventy two university students are restricted from dancing for the rest of the school year. Twelve students are barred from any dances. Sigma and Pi fraternity members face limits on future dances with one more allowed this semester. Forty more names may be acted upon soon for violations of dancing rules.
A Clover Leaf passenger train struck a Toledo Bowling Green and Southern interurban car at Mansee Ohio this morning, throwing the car on its side into a ditch. About twenty passengers were injured, the interurban carrying 50 people. Frank Barnhart of Bowling Green, a waterman aboard the interurban, is the most seriously hurt.
Seattle and Tacoma shipyards resume operations tomorrow at the same pay and conditions as before the walkout. Fifteen thousand shipyard workers in Seattle Tacoma and Aberdeen began the strike in January to pressure demands beyond Macy award limits. Officers of the Metal Trades Council announced the return to work and the reestablishment of prior working terms.
