Rare docket three murder trials set this month
Douglas County District Court Judge Paula Martin will preside over three nearly back-to-back first-degree murder trials over the next five weeks. Chief Judge Robert Fairchild says it is rare for multiple jury trials to stack in one courtroom, especially before the same judge. The trial slate opens with the March 8, 2014, shooting death of Patrick Roberts, 39, of Lawrence, in which a defendant faces aggravated burglary and first-degree murder charges.
