Homeland Security audit finds $1 million in middleman fees

A state audit shows an out-of-state firm holding the Kansas contract for Homeland Security equipment collected nearly $1 million in tax funded middleman fees in 2005. Lawmakers requested refunds from the company following the report released Wednesday.

Lawrence City Manager Wildgen resigns after 16 years

Longtime Lawrence city manager Mike Wildgen resigns after a 5-0 vote by city commissioners citing inadequate planning for growth. Interim city manager David Corliss to take over at 5 p.m. Friday. Wildgen, 58, served since 1974 in various posts and thanked staff and the commissions before leaving City Hall.

Interim City Manager David Corliss Named

Interim city manager David Corliss, 44, brings extensive Lawrence service since 1990. He joined as a management analyst in 1996, led Legal Services, and became one of two new assistant city managers while retaining Legal Services director duties. Corliss, KU educated with public administration and law degrees, is married with three daughters.

Baker names 1st woman president at Baker University

Patricia Long was named the 28th president of Baker University becoming the first woman to lead the school. She stood with outgoing president Dan Lambert and wore an orange blouse, signaling a new era for Baker.
